Customer Reviews

Our recent week-long power outage due to the recent tornado outbreak in Alabama served to reintroduce me to the joy and depth of flavor that is percolated coffee. The percolator that I used during that week was an old aluminum model. I wasn't too thrilled with cooking anything in an aluminum vessel and I wanted a larger capacity percolator so the hunt was on.
I was looking for a percolator that is durable, produces a relatively large volume of coffee and looks attractive on the counter. Another requirement that was highest on my list was that my new percolator must be manufactured in the USA. This requirement is motivated by my concerns about product safety, manufacturing standards and my family's health. Let's start by looking at the percolator, then I'll tell you more about where it's made.
The Percolator:
After it arrived I took it apart to wash it prior to use and noticed immediately that the finish on the inside of this percolator was rough and poorly finished.
I liked the way the filter basket fit so snugly into the unit. That should prevent any stray grounds from making their way into the coffee. I loved the 12 cup capacity.
The lid is permanently attached to the pot and I believe the logic behind this is that as you tip the pot to pour a cup, this design should prevent the lid from tilting forward and falling off. Unfortunately it just doesn't work out that way since the rim of the lid is too shallow to really "hold on" while the pot is being tilted and the fit of the lid isn't quite tight enough to prevent this issue. When pouring, the filter basket inside falls forward and the result is that the lid tends to push itself partially out of the pot. Why permanently attach the lid if it does not hold the lid on while pouring? The fact that the lid is permanently attached leads one to assume that the lid is securely affixed but do use caution to avoid being burned.
Cosmetically, this percolator looks great and the outside finish is attractive.
Country of Origin:
Prior to purchasing this product I searched the web and compared various percolators, eventually settling on this one. I'll note here that I didn't settle on this one because it is advertised as being a USA product. Unfortunately, Amazon (along with most online retailers) simply chooses not to answer consumer demand when it comes to disclosing product origin in item descriptions. So, I was left to hunt around the web and try to determine product origin on my own and after many searches, I felt confident that I had done just that. It seemed that this product was indeed manufactured in the good old U.S. of A.
When I decided to throw the packaging in the garbage I noticed a tiny silver sticker on the flap of the box. I put my glasses on so that I could read the even tinier print on the label and was dismayed to see this: "Made in China."
Rationale Behind my Rating:
This product loses one star due to the fact that having a lid that doesn't fall forward or fall off seems like it ought to be a pretty common sense and basic part of product design when the product is one that will be used when serving scalding hot liquids.
This product loses a second star because I think at this price point the interior stainless finish should be smooth and should appear to be as professionally finished as the exterior of this product seems to be. And I think the rough finish is eventually going to become stained and be difficult to clean. (I don't expect the same mirror finish on the interior as is on the exterior but it should be smooth and free of blemishes, nicks, etc.)
And finally, I'm knocking off a third star due to the fact that while the product description states that this percolator is stainless and the price reflects that, I was disappointed to discover that magnets stick to this percolator. That means two things: (1) the stainless used in the manufacture of this product is of poor quality and (2) it's unlikely that this product is resistant to rust, which seems ironic given the fact that rust resistance is one of the most important qualities of stainless steel.
My rating does not reflect the fact that this product is manufactured in China but I am informing you of this fact so that you have all of the information that you need in order to make a fully informed purchase.

This is the replacement coffee "maker" that I bought. The last 3 Cuisinart coffee makers I have had were poorly made and I am tired of having to send a coffee maker to the landfill every year. I'm done with that.
My husband grew up with the old style percolator that you use on the stove top. I thought that it was worth trying and I am so glad I did. The coffee tastes better and I gained some counter top space back. I now display some nice colorful cups where the old coffee station was and the percolator only leaves the stove if I need all the burners for something else.
The only thing that the drip coffee maker has over the percolator is it is a little faster, also the percolator does not have a keypad to remember to brew for you on time, another thing to stop working. The low tech percolator will last years and takes no more time to prep or clean than the Cuisinart.
I like the looks of the stainless percolator. Bottom line I am not ever going to buy another drip machine, to me it's just a ticking time bomb on when it's going to quit and the world has enough garbage clogging the landfills. Sorry Cuisinart you used to be such a good brand.
When the last Cuisinart died I could not wait for shipping so had to find one local. It actually looks nicer than the picture in the listing. I have made about 25-30 brews with it and have had no issues with the glass part on the top getting loose.
I love the smell of the coffee when it is percolating and it is worth the 15 minute wait to have such a great tasting cup of coffee.
I have nothing negative to say about the Rapid Brew 2-12 cup model, it is excellent. I'm only sorry I didn't buy one sooner.
I believe that the colors, style, size and shape options available between new and vintage percolators would allow anyone to find just the one that would make great coffee and fit their personal style.
